God's word is clear concerning the "Promised Land" ownership by the Nation of Israel. Jehovah God gave it to Abraham, the first Jew, and founding father of the Jewish Nation, as their homeland, by an everlasting, divine covenant. Even after the twelve great grandsons of Abraham, the sons of his grandson Jacob (renamed Israel), were driven from their homeland by a drought into Egypt, the Promised Land was still theirs. Their descendants became slaves in Egypt for two hundred years but the Promised Land Covenant was still in effect, and they returned to their homeland when God delivered them from their slavery. If the Abrahamic Covenant was still in effect after 200 years of slavery in Egypt, it was still in effect when the Romans drove them out again in 137 AD. The Roman Emperor, Hadrian and following Emperors would not let the Jews return, and they were dispersed throughout the world, without a national homeland until 1948 when the US led the United Nations to re-establish the Jewish Homeland in Israel. But, remember this ... It was a miracle of God which opened that small window of time for Israel and not the United Nations. It could not have happened before the holocost and would not have been possible after 1948 because of growing Muslim oil power. If I were a Presbyterian, I would either see an immediate reversal of their recent anti-Jewish action or I would immediately leave their ranks and find a Bible believing church. Here is the anti-Semitic,  un-Christian, stance they have taken....

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH  TILTS AGAINST ISRAEL

The Presbyterian Church (USA) voted on June 20, 2014 by a narrow margin of 310-303 to give a big victory to divestment supporters inside and out- side the 1.8 million-member Protestant Church, to use this strategy to pressure Israel to withdraw from the West Bank.

The divestment movement, is particularly strong in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and almost passed a similar resolution two years ago.

Most Protestant churches oppose divestment. In 2012, the United Methodist Church rejected 

divestment as a tool to pressure Israel.

The issue has split the Presbyterian Church for the last decade. Then, in January 2014 the tilt against Israel became evident when “Zionism Unsettled,” a booklet produced by a church-chartered Mission, argued that the right of a Jewish nation to exist in the Holy Land is based on bad theology.

Rabbi Rick Jacobs, head of the Union for Reform Judaism, the largest branch of Judaism in North America, came to speak before the Presbyterian General Assembly the day before the vote.

The Reform Rabbi warned that a divestment vote would be taken as a sign that the Presbyterian church has aligned itself with those in the “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions” movement who vilify Israel and often question its right to exist.

“It would be an attack on the Jewish community and religion,” especially in the wake of the publication of “Zionism Unsettled,” the Reform Rabbi said.

Rabbi Jacobs offered to arrange a meeting in Jerusalem the next week for Presbyterian leaders to talk with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if they voted against divestment.

Many who spoke against the measure urged their fellow Presbyterians to accept Rabbi Jacobs’ offer, but the majority were not open to the opportunity.

The authors of the divestment resolution did affirm the church’s support for a two-state solution and also stated that the resolution does not mean an alignment with the overall strategy of the global BDS movement, whose supporters often argue that Israel has no right to exist, and whose views the resolution did not reject.

They also did not also call for the Palestinians to recognize Israel as a Jewish state; nor did they call for Hamas, the new part of the Palestinian government, to stop firing rockets at Israeli towns.

If There Is Just One Way To Get To Heaven, Is It Unreasonable To Share It?

Common Sense Commentary: No person can be forced, intimidated, or talked into being saved, becoming a Christian. It has to be their own personal, sincere will. What we can do is give them the true gospel of Christ and pray for them to truly believe in their own hearts of their own free will.
Some people think that even that is unreasonable; but for a true Christian it is absolutely essential.

Most religions on earth are neither trying nor interested in reaching the rest of the world, much less converting the world to their beliefs. The primary two which have that as a cardinal doctrine are Christian and Muslim. The Muslim method of accomplishing the "converting" of the world has historically been done by first conquering nations and tribes and then forcing the entire population to "convert", accept Muslim Sharia Law and bow and pray toward Mecca, the birthplace of  their founder, Mohammad. After their forced conversion to Islam, it didn't take but one or two generations for a conquered, occupied nation to become entirely Muslim. That is a matter of the history of Muslim expansion to include over one billion converts.

To be fair, Catholicism, for a time, did a similar thing during the so called (Roman) Crusades, though not as bloody as the Muslim methods which continue to this day. The Catholics have pretty well ceased compulsory conversions, except within families ... which were no true conversions to Christ anyway.

Whatever "religion" employs forced conversions, within families or states, they are equally in violation of both human nature and Holy Scripture. "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." Mk.8:34. 
"And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." Rev.22:17.
"And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." John 5:40. 
"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Rom.14:12. 
Do not miss the salvation requirement of the personal, inner will of each person, to be saved.
True conversion has to be voluntary, a sincere change of heart, repentance toward God and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It has to be the personal, inner will of the person, not someone else's will. Anyone convinced against their will is of the same opinion still. Christian Salvation is a very personal thing between one person and the one and only God of the Bible. You, yourself, must ..."....Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved ...." Acts 16:31.

There are not several ways to be saved. There is only one way ..."Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:10 & 12. 

That being true, the one and only way to be forgiven of our sins, spiritually born again, saved for eternity and guaranteed a place in God's heaven is to personally believe and accept it into your life.

If the Bible is really God's word, and it is, then heaven and hell are real too because the Bible says they are... And if the Bible is true, Christ's great commission is also truly our calling ... to keep people out of hell and see them saved for heaven ... "And he (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mk.16:15. That being the case, doing our part, in Christ's church, to reach "all the world" with the good news of Jesus is not only reasonable but absolutely compelling. Not to do so is totally without excuse. To not share the only way to be forgiven saved and secure, in Christ, is what is unreasonable. RB

John Whitehead believes our government is becoming a police state and makes a convincing case in his book, A Government of Wolves. In a recent column he asks a series of questions. These are questions I think we should ask our elected officials and other candidates during this election year.

Why has there been a buildup of SWAT teams with non-security related federal agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the Office of Personnel Management?

Why have government agencies been stockpiling hollow point bullets? For example, why does the Department of Agriculture need .40 caliber semiautomatic machine guns and 320,000 rounds of hollow point bullets?

Why does the Postal Service need "assorted small arms ammunition"? Why did the Department of Homeland Security purchase 1.6 billion rounds of hollow-point ammunition, along with 7,000 fully-automatic NATO personal defense weapons plus a stash of 30-round high-capacity magazines"?

Why has the federal government been distributing many of these resources to police departments around the country? The Department of Homeland Security acquired more than 2,500 Mine-Resistant Armored Protection vehicles and then distributed them to local police departments. Thousands of military weapons, such as M-16 rifles and grenade launchers, are now in the hands of local police.

Why is FEMA stockpiling massive quantities of emergency supplies? This year FEMA made a statement enlisting the service of contractors who could "supply medical biohazard disposal capabilities." There were other requests for massive amounts of supplies ranging from 31 million flu vaccinations to 100,000 each of winter shirts and pants and the same for summer.

It is reasonable to ask what is all of this equipment for? What is the government preparing for? These are good questions to ask during this election season.

Voter ID Has Become Essential In Today's USA

Common Sense Commentary:  There is one main reason 9% of Republicans, 34% of independents, and 45% of Democrats are against Voter ID Laws, and it is not "Fear of the mark of the beast". That may be the reason with 2 or 3% ... novices, who are Biblically ignorant, but Christians who know their Bibles are not included. And, of course, there are a few Libertarians, who are against Voter IDs, but If you believe in Birth Certificates and Drivers Licenses, Voter IDs are a given. Obama has opened our borders to any and all comers, whatever their criminal records, diseases or terrorist intentions. Why do you think that is? Every year there are more illigitimate voters, multiple repeat voters, dead voters and even stolen elections, and those are the preponderance of people who are against Voter IDs. Almost anything Obama and his attorney general, Eric Holder, are for, is suspect and what they are against is usually a right thing. Kerby Anderson hits the nail on its head with this article. RB

Subscribe to Kerby's Point of View. During this election year, we are once again hearing comments and criticism of the proposals for voter ID. The president and the attorney general have been critical of voter ID laws. Some commentators have even labeled them as racist. Even Republicans like Senator Rand Paul have said that it is "wrong for Republicans to go too crazy" on voter ID because it might offend potential voters.

These comments would lead you to believe that voter ID laws are unpopular. But that is hardly the case. Jason Riley, writing in Political Diary, quotes from a few polls that show significant support for voter ID laws.

A poll by Fox News shows that support for these laws is quite strong in every demographic category. People were asked if they supported laws that "require voters to show a valid form of state- or federally-issued photo identification to prove U.S. citizenship before being allowed to vote." Seven out of ten of respondents supported such laws. That breaks down to 91 percent of Republicans, 66 percent of Independents, and 55 percent of Democrats. Men (71%) and women (70%) overwhelmingly supported voter ID laws. Three-fourths (75%) of whites and a majority (51%) of blacks also supported these laws.

These findings match previous polls on this subject. For example, the Washington Post poll conducted in 2012 asked if people should be "required to show official, government-issued photo identification—such as a driver's license—when they cast ballots on Election Day." Three-fourths (74%) of all respondent agreed, including 65 percent of blacks.

These polls demonstrate two things. First, the American people have basic common sense. We need to show an ID to cash a check. We need an ID to board an airplane or rent a car. We often need to provide an ID with a credit card purchase. Asking for ID to vote hardly seems inappropriate. Second, the poll also shows that opponents of voter ID will continue to have difficulty building opposition to such laws. They would be wise to drop the issue.

Yesterday, President Barack Obama spoke at an LGBT  (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) fundraiser in New York City. You can watch or read the entire speech here. I thought you might like to know what he said, so here are a few excerpts from the transcript of his speech:

 The day that the Supreme Court issued its ruling, United States v. Windsor, was a great day for America. - So (Gay) Pride Month is a time for celebration, and this year we've got a lot to celebrate.  If you think about everything that's happened in the last 12 months, it is remarkable.  In nine more states you’re now free to marry the person you love - that includes my two home states of Hawaii and Illinois. The NFL drafted its first openly gay player. The U.S. Postal Service made history by putting an openly gay person on a stamp - the late, great Harvey Milk smiling from ear to ear. - When I took office, only two states had marriage equality.  Today, 19 states and the District of Columbia do. - But because of your help, we've been able to do more to protect the rights of lesbian and gay, and bisexual and transgender Americans than any administration in history. - We repealed "don't ask, don't tell," because no one should have to hide who you love to serve the country we love. - I lifted the 22-year ban on people with HIV traveling to the U.S. - Before I took office, only one openly gay judge had been confirmed in history.  We have 10 more. - ...we stopped defending the so-called Defense of Marriage Act in the courts and argued alongside Edie and Robbie before the highest court in the land. - I've directed my staff to prepare for my signature, an executive order prohibiting discrimination by federal contractors on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Father Of Rocket Science 

Wernher von Braun died JUNE 16, 1977.


He was considered father of rocket science and father modern space flight. He developed the V-2 rocket in Germany before emigrating to the United States where, in 1958, he launched America's first satellite. He worked on the U.S. guided missile program and was director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. The chief architect of the Saturn V booster rocket, he is considered "without doubt, the greatest rocket scientist in history."


Wernher von Braun received the National Medal of Science in 1975. Founder of the National Space Institute, Wernher von Braun stated:  "In this age of space flight, when we use the modern tools of science to advance into new regions of human activity, the Bible-this grandiose, stirring history of the gradual revelation and unfolding of the moral law-remains in every way an up-to-date book. Our knowledge and use of the laws of nature that enable us to fly to the Moon also enable us to destroy our home planet with the atom bomb.


Science itself does not address the question whether we should use the power at our disposal for good or for evil. The guidelines of what we ought to do are furnished in the moral law of God."

In American Weekly, February 10, 1963, (Foreword to his Anthology on the Creation and Design exhibited in Nature), Wernher von Braun wrote:  "It is difficult for me to understand a scientist who does not acknowledge the presence of a superior rationality behind the existence of the universe... Viewing the awesome reaches of space...should only confirm our belief in the certainty of its Creator."

The Real Enemy Is Finally Exposing Himself, And Will Not Quit Or Surrender This Time

Common Sense Commentary: His real, original name was Lucifer (light reflector), the fallen Archangel who declared war against Jehovah God in heaven. His primary titles are now Satan, meaning "Hateful Accuser", and Devil. This later title is translated from three different Greek words. One means "dark", another "accuser" and another "deity". So he is the dark, accusing god of this world, the originator and executor of war."In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." 2 Cor.4:4.

Whatever the U.S. foreign policy position toward the Muslim nations, one thing is certain. The majority populations of those nations will never give up their determination to rule the world. Which ever political party holds power in our country, it will not change the fanatical determination of that majority of Muslims to occupy and finally establish control and Sharia Law throughout the earth. It is their historical preoccupation. It is their religion. It is their calling from Allah, their god. It was the teaching of their warrior, founding prophet, Mohammad. It is what they believe their purpose to be. It is their "Great Commission" from Mohammad, as set forth in their "holy" Quran, as surely as our Christian "Great Commission" is, to preach the gospel of Christ "into all the world". About 600 years after Christ, Mohammad copied and perverted every cardinal  doctrine in the true word of Jehovah God, the Holy Bible. The Koran has a false god, a false prophet, a false bible, a false heaven, a false hell, false peace, false martyrs, false judgement, a false messiah, a false commission and a counterfeit replica of every other major doctrine in the Bible. Committed Muslims will never give up what they believe will determine their eternal destiny. That is why so many of them gladly kill themselves in order to kill many more of those they consider to be the enemies of Mohammedanism (Islam).

This enemy of ours is not like any other enemy we have ever had. Whether it be the Germans of WW I, the Axis powers of WWII, the USSR of the Cold War, or Communist China in Korea; all of which were fought over politics, an obsession or some other material or national interest. The present war against Muslim Terrorism is a "Religious" war and goes to the very heart and soul of this enemy. Whereas, for nearly all Americans, this war is like all the others. It is about politics, material things, some disagreement, oil, envy or an incomprehensible hatred of us. And if they hate us so, we must have done something to deserve their hatred. Therefore, the average American does not see it as purely a "religious" war against all infidels (unbelievers) and for no other real reason.  Most Americans cannot comprehend such a thing, so they resort to castigating anyone who speaks against Islam, for fear of reprisal,  or they blame Israel, which seems to be the primary objection of Muslims.... so its about politics or borders or something we did, rather than religion.  Do not be misled by the American Liberal press or by Liberal politicians who make Israel the problem or some trivial anti-Muslim video which caused Benghazi. Neither of which is true. No, the core of the problem is a fanatical religion which wants to concur and control the entire world, and this war will continue into the Tribulation Period and will only end  when Christ returns to set up His Millennial Kingdom. So buckle up and prepare for a rough ride until Jesus comes for us. The future may be dangerous but it will not be boring. Thousands Of Illegal Aliens Flood Across Our Southern Border

Common Sense Commentary: I don't blame the rampaging, senseless, lunatics for taking over the mental institution; I blame the well armed officials in charge and their commander-in-chief for not doing their job and allowing it to happen. In this case, the primary blame lies at the President's feet for ordering the Border Patrol to "Stand Down". He is backed up by the vote hungry, brain-dead  Democrats in Congress. The blame is also shared by cowardly Republican Congressmen for not bringing impeachment charges against the President. After hundreds of thousands more,of illegal aliens, have flooded in and joined the hundreds of thousands of them already here, the President will issue an Executive Order that they are all fully vested citizens with the right to vote. Guess who these poor, politically unlearned, hungry for free stuff, new citizens will vote with. The Democrats will then win every election, dump the U.S. Constitution, and squeeze Conservative Patriots into a disenfranchised, persecuted minority. We will then have a "majority vote", Democracy without the balancing power of a Constitutional Republic of protective Law.The American dream will have become a lawless nightmare. Obama has nothing to lose and the Liberal, Socialist Democrats will turn the U.S. into a socialist dictatorship as they did in the failed, bankrupt Soviet Union. The Communist USSR stood for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Communism is nothing more than Socialism conjoined with Atheism. Atheism does not require a confession of it, but is a condition of the heart and mind. Many Atheists profess "Christianity" with their mouth but their hearts are far from it. Jesus said it plainly,  "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me." Matt.15:8.

Border Patrol officials are swamped by the number of minors crossing illegally into the United States and frustrated that they can’t turn away known Mexican gang members.

Chris Cabrera, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307 in the Rio Grande Valley, said that confirmed gang members in Mexico — including those from Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) — are coming into the country to be reunited with their families, National Review reported Friday.

“If he’s a confirmed gang member in his own country, why are we letting him in here? … I’ve heard people come in and say, ‘You’re going to let me go, just like you let my mother go, just like you let my sister go. You’re going to let me go as well, and the government’s going to take care of us,’” Mr. Cabrera told the magazine.

He said that the only way to solve the problem was to implement harsher restrictions on who can be allowed to cross.

“Until we start mandatory detentions, mandatory removals, I don’t think anything is going to change. As a matter of fact, I think it’s going to get worse,” he said, National Review reported.

Other Border Patrol officials said that officers must treat minors with gang-affiliated tattoos the same as anybody else wishing to cross the border.

“It’s upsetting that a lot of them are 16 pr 17 years old and a lot of them are not going to face deportation,” said Art Del Cueto, president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 2544 in Tucson, Ariz, National Review reported.

Mr. Cabrera told the news agency that the Rio Grande Valley location has nine stations. The largest facility is in McAllen, Texas, with a capacity of 275 people. Its agents sees between 700 and 1,500 people daily.

From all points of entry there are several thousand coming across every day without restraint.

Shocking allegations by former child actor Michael Egan against openly “gay” “X-Men” director and producer Bryan Singer have stunned Hollywood into relative silence. I say “relative silence” because, unless he’s a Catholic priest, the relativist left’s false narrative is that a “gay” man is always the victim and never the victimizer.
Nonetheless, this latest episode has once again shined the spotlight on the long-established link between the homosexual lifestyle/movement and pedophilia – a link that, despite “progressive” denials to the contrary, is hiding in plain sight.
Egan has filed suit against Singer and several other high-profile Hollywood figures for homosexually assaulting him and other boys repeatedly at several “‘infamous‘ coke and twink pool parties” back when Egan was 15 and Singer was 32. (In the “LGBT” vernacular “twinks,” also called “chicken,” are highly sought-after underage boys used for sex by adult “gay” men.)
Egan’s claims eerily mirror those of former child actor Corey Feldman who similarly alleged last year that such homosexual abuse is rampant, even systemic, in Hollywood.
But are these allegations really that shocking? Regrettably, the overwhelming weight of the evidence indicates that the abuse runs rampant well beyond just Hollywood.
To be sure, not all homosexuals are pedophiles. Yet a grossly disproportionate number of them are. I don’t write this to be insensitive, “hateful,” intolerant or “homophobic.”
It’s “just the facts, Ma’am.”
Consider, for instance, a study published in the left-leaning Archives of Sexual Behavior of over 200 convicted pedophiles and pederasts. It found that “86 percent of offenders against males described themselves as homosexual or bisexual.” This demonstrates, as notes Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council, that “homosexual or bisexual men are approximately 10 times more likely to molest children than heterosexual men.”
This makes perfect sense when coupled with another 2001 study in the same peer-reviewed publication. It found that nearly half of all “gay”-identified men who participated in research were molested by a homosexual pedophile as boys: “46 percent of homosexual men and 22 percent of homosexual women reported having been molested by a person of the same gender. This contrasts to only 7 percent of heterosexual men and 1 percent of heterosexual women reporting having been molested by a person of the same gender.”
The connection between homosexual abuse and “gay identity” is undeniable. Although clearly not all “gay”-identified men and women abuse children, or were abused as children, the verifiable reality is that an alarmingly high percentage of them do and were. As with most forms of abuse, the cycle is both circular and vicious. “Born that way?” Not so much. “Made that way?” Sadly, it appears so.
But of equal concern is the fact that many of the most prominent “LGBT” activists across the globe have either overtly endorsed, or given their implicit approval of, what the left euphemistically calls “intergenerational intimacy” (read: child rape).

Or remember Kevin Jennings, President Obama’s “safe school czar” and founder of the sexual extremist group GLSEN?
Wrote the Washington Times of Jennings in 2009:
“A teacher was told by a 15-year-old high school sophomore that he was having homosexual sex with an ‘older man.’ At the very least, statutory rape occurred. Fox News reported that the teacher violated a state law requiring that he report the abuse. That former teacher, Kevin Jennings, is President Obama’s ‘safe school czar.’ …
“In this one case in which Mr. Jennings had a real chance to protect a young boy from a sexual predator, he not only failed to do what the law required but actually encouraged the relationship.”
Jennings later lied about the encounter until audio surfaced of him bragging on it. “I looked at [the boy],” he quipped, “and said, ‘You know, I hope you knew to use a condom.’”
Still, this pattern of homosexual abuse and facilitation of such abuse by the “LGBT” movement is nothing new.
Take Jennings hero Harry Hay. Hay is considered the “founding father” of the modern “gay rights” movement. Among other things, he has been honored as an “icon” for “LGBT History Month” by the entire homosexual activist community.
Not surprisingly, Hay was a child rape enthusiast and avid supporter of the pedophile North American Man/Boy Love Association, or NAM/BLA. In 1983, while keynoting a NAM/BLA event, Hay said the following:
“It seems to me that in the gay community the people who should be running interference for NAM/BLA are the parents and friends of gays. Because if the parents and friends of gays are truly friends of gays, they would know from their gay kids that the relationship with an older man is precisely what 13-, 14-, and 15-year-old kids need more than anything else in the world.”
Or take “LGBT” martyr Harvey Milk, a sexual predator known to have statutorily raped, repeatedly, a drug-addicted, teenage, runaway boy. Milk’s punishment? The Obama administration just awarded him an honorary USPS postage stamp.
Am I the only one who sees the pattern here? Has the goddess of “tolerance” really driven the world completely blind with madness?
If consistency holds, and these allegations against Bryan Singer prove true (the evidence suggests they well may), I’ll wager he ends up with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the next keynote at the annual HRC Gala.
I’ll also wager that, either way, we’ll soon begin seeing more “intergenerational sex” aficionados “coming out of the closet.”
Welcome to the bottom of the slippery slope.

Slowly We Went Insane

Common Sense Commentary: I reprint the following article from a Pastor's viewpoint. It may have been written about the insanity of financial mismanagement by nations. But from my perspective it is about young High School students who cannot find a part-time job to fill up their idle time and make a bit of spending money, about college students who cannot find a part time job to help pay for their education, about young married couples who can't find a job paying enough to pay their bills and feed their little children, about parents with children in High School or College, but can't afford to help them financially, about older couples who have lost all hope of ever retiring and their meager savings are earning nearly zero interest, about senior citizens who are losing medical coverage under ObamaCare and whose savings are rapidly being diminished because, with no earned interest, they are living off of their principle which will soon be gone.... what then? The reason for all of the above problems is the sin of reckless government spending which has led us all into an inflationary spiral .... which IS about the greed of money and political insanity. But the effects upon our people is not just money, it is physical health and mental health; it is affecting people's emotional and even spiritual lives. Besides that, the insane government spending tended to undermine our national character, our personal responsibility, our very freedom ... and our U.S. Constitution. We are standing at the historic door of a dictatorship. The root cause may be insane money management but the resulting fruit of it is not about money; it is about a disintegrating  nation. RB

If it looks like insanity, smells like insanity, tastes like insanity, feels like insanity and struts about

barking, “This is insanity”, then perhaps it might just be insanity.

“We were in the jungle. We had too much money. We had too much equipment. And little by 
little, we went insane.” 

Not the words of Mario Draghi – yet. They are the words of film director Francis Ford Coppola in 
relation to his magnum opus, ‘Apocalypse Now’, a film that so outrageously exploded beyond its 
budget and beyond any reasonable compass that during its making it started being referred to as 
‘Apocalypse Later’. Coppola’s unique vision came at a price. What was expected to be a 14-week 
shoot in the Philippines ended up taking more than a year. Coppola fired his leading man, Harvey 
Keitel, after just two weeks. His replacement, Martin Sheen, turned out to be fighting alcohol 
addiction and suffered a heart attack on set. Numerous members of the crew went down with 
tropical diseases. At key points, helicopters hired for pivotal action sequences were suddenly 
redirected to quell a revolt in the southern Philippines. Then a typhoon hit, the set was destroyed 
and the production was shut down. 

Throughout all of it, Coppola was dealing with increasingly worried money men back in 
Hollywood as the film’s budget ran dry. 

And then Marlon Brando arrived on set, so hugely overweight as to be almost unrecognisable. He 
didn’t have the barest knowledge of the script. And there were actual dead bodies on the set, 
bought to add some ‘atmosphere’ from a local who turned out to be a grave-robber. Then Brando 
shaved all his hair off and insisted on improvising all of his scenes. 

Coppola had sunk his own life savings into the film. He faced financial ruin if he couldn’t finish it. 
He suffered a nervous breakdown and on at least three separate occasions allegedly threatened to 
commit suicide. “My movie is not about Vietnam,” he once explained, “my movie is Vietnam.” 

The markets are not about Vietnam. They are Vietnam. There’s a difference, of course. When a
film studio runs out of capital, the production gets shut down. Corporate resources can only ever
be finite. But when a government runs out of capital, it simply borrows more. Or taxes more. Or
both. At least for as long as it has access to credit by way of maintaining the confidence of the
bond market.

Practically every western government has got its finances into a desperate mess. In the words of
US fund manager Paul Singer of Elliott Management,

“America is deeply insolvent, and for that matter, so are most of continental Europe, the UK and
Japan.”

For as long as governments can perpetuate the illusion of solvency, they can continue to borrow,
and therefore also to spend. But once the illusion is broken..

Actions have consequences. Governments are no different from individuals or corporations or 

film studios in this respect – they can merely perpetuate the myth of solvency for longer, given the
credulity of global capital markets and of agency investors with no real skin in the game in their
bond portfolios. But at some point, the piper must be paid. Which is why every major western
government is determined to inflate, and pay the piper (bondholders) in ever more worthless
paper money. And this is why Mario Draghi has now driven interest rates to below zero. The
natural corollary to universal currency debasement is to own a currency and durable store of
value that cannot be printed on demand. If only we could find one.


Judas Was A Socialist

Was this incident about money (300 pence), or about Socialism vs Free Enterprise, Personal Property Rights, Spiritual Commitment, Sacrafice, Love, Greed, Honesty, Dishonesty, Betrayal, Truth and Lying ? RB
