Common Sense Commentary: Consider "Action", "Knowledge", and "Inaction" ; Three kinds of people with three different reactions.
1. Those who take action without knowledge. Action without knowledge is either immaturity or irresponsible.
2. Those who have knowledge without appropriate action. Knowledge without appropriate action is either procrastination, indifference, laziness, fear, inability or, I didn't want to get involved.
3. Those who take action with knowledge. Knowledge with appropriate action or action with knowledge is intelligence, wisdom, courage, diligence or love.
1. Those who take action without knowledge are like the young man who launched his sailboat into the gulf in spite of the weather reports that a hurricane was rapidly approaching, everyone else was leaving the area, and the sky was dark with storm clouds. He may have been courageous, strong, handsome, rich and resolute .... but he wasn't very wise. He was either immature, impatient, irresponsible, vain or all four.
2. Those who have knowledge but take no appropriate action are like the old, experienced sailor, who stood on the dock ,watching the young man launch his boat, as the hurricane drew near and the wind was picking up, but he said nothing and did nothing. His lack of action was either indifference, callousness, sadistic, cowardess or three of the four.
3. Those who have knowledge with appropriate action are like the young lady who came with the young man, in her own car, because she didn't like his driving, When she saw people leaving, the storm clouds, wind, and heard the weather report, she refused to get in the boat, and begged him not to go. When he grew angry, she turned, warned the old sailor, ran to her car and sped, at the speed limit, to safety.
This didn't really happen; but similar things do happen constantly, somewhere. It applies to illegal drug sale or use, alcohol, reckless driving, and a thousand other dumb decisions we are all faced with but especially teens who are not quite children and not quite adults.
Here is what God says on the subject: "The word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; But he that taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. So thou O son of man, I have set thee a watchman upon the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. Ezek.33:1-7
