Common Sense Commentary: Human language is as limited as human bodies and minds. So much of what we feel and think cannot be adequately communicated. As if that is not enough, some words have double meanings and some cannot be translated into another language with absolute accuracy.
The translators of the New Testament often could not translate a Greek word into a single English word.
In that case they usually used several English words or a phrase to express the Greek meaning of a single word. They sometimes chose to simply "transliterate" the word; This means, they made the Greek word a new English word. the word "baptize" is such a word. They "literally transposed" the Greek word "baptizo" into "baptize" and invented a new English word.
There are also English words just as difficult to convert to another language. Many new technology, English words have been transliterated into many other languages. You will see them in foreign news papers... an English word made into a Spanish or German word. Thousands of our English words have been transliterated from Latin and Greek. Such an English word is Nihilism. It derived originally from the Latin, "nihil" and became an English word. I cannot define the original meaning of Nihilism in a single word that describes it accurately. The best I can do is to say, the Latin word meant something like this:
"Nothingness, nil, no will, unwilling to obey rules, radical, lawless, unprincipled, unrestrained anarchy."
The English version of its meaning, as we use it today, is best defined by Noah Webster: "A view point that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and useless. A doctrine that denies any objective ground of TRUTH and especially Moral Truths." This is far beyond Libertarianism, much of which I agree with. Nihilism means "everything goes". That's the shortest definition I know of.
I have said all that to suggest this: If present trends in America have greased the political, moral, religious and educational skids which have carried us so far down the slippery slope into "the valley of the shadow", where lieth immorality and ... lies too, what will they do next? Nihilism has become the religion of a vast congregation of fanatical, amoral Americans. As a religion, nihilism may be quite new to most Americans, but it dates back to its founder, Lucifer. He was the very first to convert to Nihilism, the first to say, in effect, "There's no good reason to not eat this beautiful, delicious fruit. You know you want it. God was not being honest when he threatened you. This fruit won't kill you. That's silly. Its nourishing and delicious. Here try it: You'll like it whether God likes it or not. Be your own self. Do what YOU want."
Similarly, it has become "logical and scientific", in America, to deny the promises, warnings and truths of God's word. It has, therefore, also become "enlightened" to deny RIGHT and WRONG (moral nihilism), and to deny that TRUTH is KNOWABLE (epistemological nihilism), and to deny OBJECTIVE REALITY (metaphysical nihilism). Isn't it then probable that this same deluded segment of our society who poisoned the well of TRUTH in our country will continue to undermine our Heritage and our Constitution and the Principles upon which America was founded and has thrived for over 200 years ? They want to legalize illegal drugs, prostitution, casinos, teen sex, every kind of perversion, even child pornography, open borders for illegal aliens, and the list is endless.
The momentum is all downhill, right now, in America.... but that light at the end of the tunnel is not more bad news.... but the "good news" gospel of Jesus Christ. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psm.23:4. Jesus is our Chief Shepherd and has a shepherd's staff with a hook on one end, to pull his sheep out of trouble, and a rod on the other to ward off the wild beasts and sheep stealers, so we need "fear no evil: Jesus is with us" and will keep us safe and "comfort" us. The future is ours, LOOK UP.
Pass it on. RB
