Common Sense Commentary: People, used cars, churches, businesses and situations are never exactly what they appear to be. Sometimes better but often worse.
One Hundred years ago today, the mighty Titanic passenger ship hit an iceberg and sunk, taking hundreds of lives to a cold watery grave. Nothing, of that magnitude had ever happened before. As the great ship went down, the passengers and crew could not believe this unimaginable, historic calamity was happening.... to them. The ship's architect had said, "God Himself could not sink this ship". It was the pride of the fleet and of the whole world. This historically large, beautiful, luxurious and totally safe ship was named, "The Colossal, Magnificent, Power" of the sea ... Titanic!!! That is what the name means. The news papers headlined ..."The Unsinkable Titanic". It could not sink. But it did! The shipping line guaranteed it was safe. But it wasn't!!! Their most experienced captain was at the helm. He went down at the helm... in command. Icebergs didn't come that far south. But one did !!! Is there some important lesson we can learn from the tragedy of the Titanic? There must be many. One is, "Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring fourth." Prov.27:1. Lucifer's downfall was his pride, vainglory and what he thought of his capabilities. He was so beautiful. His name means Light Lifter. He was enrobed with rare precious stones, glittering and reflecting the glorious, holy light of God. But that was not enough for Lucifer, one of only three Archangels. He was jealous of God who created him and made him beautiful, gave him such an exalted position in Heaven and a freewill. Lucifer coveted God's throne and was so lustful for God's power that he led a third of the angels of Heaven in a rebellion against the Great God and Creator of all things, Jehovah. That same God, gave Isaiah a transcript of His conversation with Lucifer, Satan the Devil, when He fired him and cast him out of Heaven into outer darkness, into the earth. "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground.... Because thou hast said ... I will ascend... I will exault my throne, I will sit upon the mountain (above) the congregation... I will ascend above the heights... I will be like the most high (God)" Isa.14:12-14 " Yet thou shalt be bought down to hell..." v.15.
Our political leaders or pilot may have absolute confidence in their ability to do the best things for us but it could actually be a superiority complex, an exaulted opinion of their abilities. I have voted for hundreds of political candidates but very few ever lived up to my expectations ... but all of the ones I had no confidence at all in ... lived up to my expectations of them.... bad. I have flown with pilots of small, private planes at least a dozen times from Mexico to Alaska, and trusted the pilot, or wouldn't have flown with them, but I have never yet had a good experience in a small private plane. I'll do a blog on it.
Another lesson we can learn is, Never say Never. Just because a thing has never happened does not prove it cannot happen or will not. Every event, tragedy and unthinkable thing which has ever happened had a first time. Lucifer and his following angels had never been cast out before it happened . Adam and Eve disobeyed God for the first time and were driven out of the Garden for the first time. Murder had a first time ... Cain Killed Able. Adultery had a first time. Theft had a first time. You had life for the first time. Because you have never died before, does not prove you will never die in the flesh. Many nations and empires have suffered disintegration, hunger, devastating deflation, hyper inflation, tyranny, dictatorships, political purges, and loss of freedom. Simply because it has not happened in the United States does not mean it is not about to happen here. If our people and politicians follow the errors of those other nations, we will suffer the same consequences. God gave Israel a political system of Judges and Laws, a Republic, in my opinion. When difficulties came, the people became quickly disillusioned with their government and demanded a king. They got what appeared to be the best man in the entire country, King Saul, but he turned out to be proud, abusive and a tyrant. Could it happen in America the beautiful, land of the brave and free??? Absolutely !!! We are almost there now.

Amen! I had a long time fascination with the Titanic. I remember when they finally found it at the bottom of the ocean. It feels almost like they were "tempting" God with all of those gross descriptions of its "glory". I wonder how many things I put my faith in other than God...
