Could he really be elected for a third term? In a speech made during his trip to Africa this week, President Obama suggested that he could win a third term if he ran for the White House. A new poll could challenge that idea, though.
A Rasmussen Reports national survey of likely voters reveals that 30 percent would vote for the president if he ran again, and 63 percent would not. There’s the predictable partisan divide: 57 percent of Democrats would vote for Mr. Obama for a third time; 93 percent of Republicans and 68 percent of unaffiliated voters would not - along with 32 percent of Democrats.
“Sixty-nine percent of black voters would vote to elect Obama to a third term, compared to 22 percent of white voters and 39 percent of other minority voters,” the survey stated.
Americans appear satisfied with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that prohibits presidential candidates from being elected to more than two four-year terms: 78 percent of voters overall oppose changing that amendment.
“Most black voters (54 percent), however, would change the constitutional amendment. Just 10 percent of whites and 38 percent of other minority voters agree,” the poll said.
