Common Sense Commentary: "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him." Prov.26:4.
It is futile and destructive to let your self be drawn into a conversation of differences with a person who is incapable of having a sensible discussion, where there is conflict. I have known a few people who almost invariably become like arguing with the T.V. playing a horror movie... with the volume turned on high. Unless you, yourself, begin to scream and accuse also, which compounds the offence, it is a one way dispute and of no benefit, but lots of liability. If we do not avoid such bitter angst we may give way to our own emotions and become "like unto them".
"...The counsel of the froward is carried headlong." Job.5:13
Froward means "out of control argumentative" like a knock down, drag out fight. The froward person's opinionated defense...or attack...dominates the discussion with greater and greater force of heat and volume which "carries them headlong" into irrational anger and screaming to prove their point. Their later feelings of embarrassment may actually make them even more angry at you.
When dealing with such a person, it is better to listen and leave without a defense than to enter a screaming match which has no conclusion. It might even be advisable to avoid such a person.... but with kindness and prayer for them.
