Treat The Least Impressive Appearing Oldster With Respect
We certainly don't have to agree with or obey or defer to everyone we meet, but neither should we show less respect for those who are old, or unattractive, appear to be poor or unfriendly. I think it is always right to show respect, not familiarity, but simple respect to every human being unless they do something really inexcusable. But the very young, very old, and very handicapped, especially, deserve special treatment. Be patient with the old lady in the check-out line who is so slow in writing out her check, and takes way too much time putting everything back in its right place in her purse. There are still oldsters who do not use credit cards or cell phones. When you get their age, their slowness will most certainly become your own. It is so easy for an old person to lose their check book, purse, wallet or something important. Then they can't remember where they parked their car. When the finally find it, they can't find their keys. Just remember, that will be you someday. My someday has arrived. RB
The Elderly Walmart Greeter
Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to
get to work on time.
Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But, he was a very good
worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded, a real credit
to the company and he always demonstrated their
"Older Person Friendly" policy!
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.
"Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you
do a bang-up job when you finally get here, but your being late
so often is quite bothersome.""
"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."
"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear."
"Yes sir, I understand your concern and Ill try harder."
Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment,
"It's odd though - your coming in late.
I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say
to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?"
The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled.
He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, "They usually saluted and
said, Good morning, Admiral, can I get your
coffee for you, sir?
"Thou shalt rise up before the (grey haired) head, and honour the face of the old man ...." Lev.19:32.
"Rebuke not an elder, but (ask him earnestly) as a father.... The elder women as mothers ...." 1Tim.5:1-2.
