Will God Retain Them In His Memory Forever?
In his youthful lust, King David, was drawn into sin when he stayed home from the battles and sent others to defend the kingdom against their evil enemy. There in the luxury of the king's royal quarters, with time, energy and sensuality lurking in his flesh, he looked from his rooftop observatory and saw the wife of his Battlefield Commander ... sunbathing. Bathsheba had to know she was within sight of the king's observation ... but he was king and more accountable to do right before God. Alas, his lust drove him to arrange a rendezvous which resulted in the girl's pregnancy, then the plotted death of her husband, by David, then the death of the baby and the king's exposure and long, excruciating pain for him and the girl ... who became his wife. But as bad and painful as David and Bathsheba's sin had been, for everyone, still, God gave mercy in the midst of judgment. He gave David and Bathsheba a second son who followed David as the King of Israel, was builder of the Holy Temple of God, the wisest and richest man in history... Solomon, who also wrote three of God's Old Testament books. What wonderful mercy God blessed these two sinners, Solomon's parents, with.

The guilt of David's sin plagued him for years afterward, but God used him to write the Psalms which have blessed millions of needy, guilty, regretful but seeking souls.
Was King David asking too much of God when he prayed in Psalms 79:8, "O remember not against us former iniquities ...." No, because God heard his prayer and gave him peace to replace the guilt, and not long after that prayer of repentance, David gave this testimony .... "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." Psalms 103:12
The prophet, Micah, who had also found grace in the midst of judgment and gave testimony to the goodness and grace and forgiveness of God in subduing sin in the believer's life and casting it out into the darkness of the deep. Micah raised his prophetic voice, to the world, of God's will to save sinners, have compassion on the repentant, subdue their sins, and cast those sins into irretrievable darkness. Micah 7:19 "He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."
Later Isaiah gave a similar testimony of his own spiritual delivery from the pits of sin into the presence of God who, with love for Isaiah, had cast his sins out of sight or memory .... "behind God's back." "... Thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back." Isa. 38:17.
Then Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, who knew God well and spoke to the world of sinners for Him.
God gave Jeremiah His exact words, to be quoted to repentant sinners, with a promise to completely forget a sincere sinners wickedness and guilt when he repented and believed on his Lord. God's words through Jeremiah were, "... I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." Jer. 31:34.
The Apostle John, of whom the scripture says "Jesus loved", was closer to Jesus than other disciples. He knew and remembered all that Jesus said and did. John stood, in his humility upon his strong faith, and told the world that repentance and faith in Christ's shed blood, for believing sinners, cleansed them of "all sin" and washed those sins into a bottomless grave, buried under "the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son". "... The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 Jn.1:7.
Where are our forgiven sins? They are "removed as far as the east is from the west"... "behind God's back" ... "covered by Jesus' blood" ... "cast into the depth of the sea" ... "forgiven and remembered no more by God". How far gone, dead, buried, and forgotten can a thing be? This is why Jesus promised, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32. RB
