Common Sense Commentary: The verse above is Psalms 11:3. The word "tsaddig" is Hebrew translated "righteous" in that verse. I used "tsaddig" because the word "righteous", when applied to people, has been misunderstood to mean "holier than thou" or self-righteous. The word simply means, "justified and right with God."(All who have accepted God's remedy for sin, Jesus.) See Rom.4:3-22.
The Psalmist's question concerns the national and spiritual "foundations" of the Jews. My comments below have to do with those same "foundations" in America. Our nation was founded as a Democratic Republic and has been blessed of God more than almost any nation; but that is no longer the case.
A true Democracy is a government of "Majority Rule". The majority could mean the largest segment of the population or a smaller segment which turns out the most voters, rioters or intimidators as in Iraq or Chicago. The weakness of a Democracy without a Republic is that a large majority can
leave minorities out altogether. Also, a strong, motivated minority can take over a government and persecute the majority as Saddam Husain did in Iraac. The majority were Sheite, the minority Sunni.
He was Sunni and stayed in power by wealth and military power.
A Republic is government according to Publicly Established Law such as our Constitution that specifies exactly what that government can do and the rights of the Citizens. "At the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on September 18, 1787, a Mrs. Powel anxiously awaited the results, and as Benjamin Franklin emerged from the long task now finished, asked him directly: "Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" "A republic if you can keep it" responded Franklin."
A Democratic Republic is a democracy which has a Constitution of laws which limit what that government can and cannot do, to exactly what is written in it. No more and no less. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights is supposed to do that. We must restore Constitutional law in Ameica.
A Democracy without a Republic (Constitutional Law) is ruled by a shifting tide majority who band together for a mutual cause or causes which rises and falls between elections and is continuously changing constituents with changing issues. A new voting majority may be composed of coalitions of minorities, by ideology, race, religion, grievances, promises or greed. Without Constitutional Law, a Democracy quickly deteriorates into a one party government where the majority has no "legal" constraints in their actions and treatment of their minority opponents and no restrictions on special privileges, Pork and largess. Also, a highly motivated minority can take over a mediocre government,
the majority voters being apathetic, and rule by filling the police and military with their own kind. Think Hitler. Our Constitution is designed to protect every citizen equally. We must not allow
our Constitution to continue being violated. That is exactly what brought Hitler to power.
Our founding fathers' intent, in establishing our Constitutional provision for an Electoral College instead of a simple majority of voters, in national elections, was to prevent the entire country from being dominated by the four or five most populous states with large city populations who could out vote all the less populated states and control all 50. In America today that would mean California, New York, Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan could elect a President the other 45 states didn't want. Those five states are, in turn, dominated by Los Angeles, New York City, Cleveland/Cincinnati, Chicago and Detroit which have a preponderance of welfare and medicaid recipients, gangs, drug abuse and AIDs ....so who do you suppose they would elect without the Electoral College? This constitutional provision balances out the power between all of the states and protects them equally.
Slavery was made possible by a "white" majority violating the Constitutional requirement of equality and justice for all citizens of the United States. Blatant violation of that same constitution is happening again today. In the near future whites will be in the minority and subject to similar treatment. That would be justice if we were the ones who did the crime and they were the ones who suffered by it.
God's "Golden Rule" of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" only works reasonably well among God's people who are truly committed to obeying His "rules" (Commandments and laws). Without God and His Word and will, there would be no more "morality" among humans than among animals. And that is exactly what we would be, and what is taught in schools, if there were no true God .... animals.
Many nations of the world are governed by that segment of population which has the most power. Power can be in the form of tradition, armament, wealth, cruelty, fear, religion or "the powers of darkness". Saudi Arabia and North Korea come to mind. Once a power block is in control, time and corruption can build wealth, armament, fear and a political machine, like Daley's Chicago machine, which will keep them in power until the lid blows off. Lids are blowing off right now world-wide. So ... "what can the "right with God" Christian do?"
"...The wicked ... make ready ... that they may ... (under cover of darkness) shoot the upright in heart .... If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? The Lord is in His Holy Temple ... His eyes behold ... the children of men. The Lord trieth the righteous ... but the wicked ... His soul hateth... Upon the wicked He shall rain ... fire and brimstone and a horrible storm ..." Psm.11:2-6
So what can the righteous do ? Trust God, Consult His Word, Pray, Rest in Jesus.... and vote.
