It is possible for a new or weak Christian to be unsure or doubtful of their salvation, and still be saved. It is also possible for an unsaved but "professing" Christian to think they are saved when they are not.
Here is a simple, Scriptural means of knowing for sure ... one way or the other. The Bible is clear and definite on the subject of salvation. The problem is not with Scripture but with knowing it and understanding it.
1. - You should first settle it in your heart that God is real. Yes, it is humanly impossible that there is an all powerful, all knowing, all present, eternal God and Creator of the universe and of us ... who also loves us. But we are not speaking of what is possible to a 6 inch by 6 inch, finite human brain. we are considering what is possible in the Omniscient brain of the Creator of the infinite universe and of that tiny human brain as well. The only thing more impossible than that there IS such a God is ... that there IS NOT such a God. That is impossible. Only a willingly blind mind will or can doubt the fact of a Creator God.
2. - When you settle the fact of God, you will then be ready for the message of God, the Word of God, which He has given the human race, which He created in His own "image and likeness", that we might know Him, the relationship He wants with us, and what He expects of us. He gave us His Living Word, Jesus Christ, and His written word in black and white, to study and learn His will for us. When you can accept the fact of God and the fact of His Holy Word, you will then want to search His Bible for His perfect will ... for you and for the world.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness...." 2 Tim.3:16.
"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." Jn.5:39.
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim.2:15.
3. - After God created heaven and earth, and the father and mother of the human race in Gen.1 ... they exercised their free will choice by doing what God specifically told them not to do. Then they, Adam and Eve, containing the seed of the whole human race, passed on to us, their descendants, the propensus tendency and inclination to sin.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." Rom.5:12.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Rom.3:23.
"And Jesus said unto him ... there is none good but one, that is, God." Mk.10:18.
The worst thing about the universality of sin among humans is it is disobedience to our Holy God. The second worse thing about our sins is that it always ends in physical and spiritual death for all mankind.
This brings us to the need of forgiveness, cleansing, and salvation from sin and death for all of us. And here is the crux of the whole matter ....
4. - Since the entire human race literally has sin in its DNA, its heart, mind and flesh, and therefore is incapable of cleansing or saving itself, God sent down the remedy ... His Son, Jesus Christ, to buy us back, redeem us back to God, our Creator, by dying our death for our sins on the cross of Calvary.
"For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many." Rom.5:15.
"The righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" Rom.3:22-24.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Eph.2:8-9.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". Jn.14:6.
5. - Now the question is, what will you choose to do? There are only two choices, to accept or reject Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior ... right now. To neglect is to reject. To postpone is to reject.
"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation....." Heb.2:3.
