Keys To Understanding The Scripture

Common Sense Commentary: "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2Tim.2:15.

One cannot understand the Scripture until they understand that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." 2Tim.3:16. With the understanding that all the Bible is inspired of God, next, it is also extremely important to understand that all of the Bible, all scripture relates, in some way, to Christ. From Genesis one, when God spoke the word and said, "Let there be" and the Living Word, Jesus Christ, went out and performed the command and created it ( Jn.1:1-3 &10-14). Next, God said, "... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...." Gen.1:26. When God used the pronouns, "us" and "our", He was speaking to Christ and the Holy Spirit; they were there... with the Father ... the Holy Trinity. From there, throughout the entire Bible ... to the last book, whose first verse introduces it as "The Revelation of Jesus Christ..." Rev.1:1, it is all about Jesus Christ. The Creation is His Creation, the Law is His Command, the prophecies are of Him, the gospels are His "Good News", the epistles are all about Him, and the Revelation is a revelation of Him. It's all about Jesus.

The book of Hebrews declares ... "Then said I (Christ), Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God." Heb.10:7. The entire "volume of the book it is written of Jesus" It's all about Jesus

Jesus, speaking to His disciples, said, "And he said unto them .... all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me." Lk.24:44. It's all about Jesus.  And then, the next verse draws the bottom line, v.45 "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures."  He will do the same for you. Study your Bible, and keep Jesus, God the Son, uppermost in your understanding. God sent His written word through His Patriarchs, Prophets, Apostles and Chosen Disciples, to the world of people, to tell us about His Living Word and Sacrificed Son as out only Savior. God the Father made it all about God the Son.

A command and a promise:
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

II Timothy 3:16-17
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

My Dad taught me......

The two best ways that I know of to learn at our Lord's feet is:
1- Consistent prayer time.
2- Consistent study time.

I don't believe there are any shortcuts.
