Few People Being Used Of The Devil, Know it. Most Think God Is On Their Side

Common Sense Commentary: No delusion is as strong as a false religion's fanatic.

In John 8, Jesus was teaching in the Temple when some fanatically religious, Jewish Scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and interrupted His teaching, to challenge Him, by asking His opinion, as to whether they should stone her to death, or not. They quoted scripture (Lev.20:10) to justify killing her. Jesus answered, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her" (Jn.8:7).  Then Jesus told the crowd of onlooking Jews, "I am the light of the world" (Jn.8:12).  To this, they called Him a liar (Jn.8:13). So Jesus told them that God, His "Father", had sent Him and was with Him. They continued to argue with Jesus and misunderstood or misrepresented everything He said. These Jews had religion but they did not have God. They could quote the Law and the Prophets, but they were spiritually blind. They claimed Abraham was their earthly father and God was their heavenly Father, and though they were religious and argued their religion, they didn't even know God. They knew the signs and prophecies describing their coming Messiah but still did not recognize or acknowledge Jesus, who fulfilled all of those prophecies, as their Messiah. In fact, they accused him of lying and being full of the devil. So Jesus then told them the whole truth about themselves....  "But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God:..... Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not." John 8:40-45.
They, who thought they worshiped the true God, who occupied God's Temple and whose prophets  received God's Holy Word, were, in fact, themselves being used of the Devil, Satan .... and they didn't even know it. They thought the opposite was true. They were totally convinced that they were right and Jesus was wrong. They were positive they "had" God and Jesus "had a devil".  All the doctrine and scripture they knew and could quote, contradicted everything they thought about Jesus .... but they could not see it. "That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world...." Eph.2:12.

Ironically, there are people in this world who would die for a religion that uses illicit sex in their worship or who believe that God is a mountain or a bolder or an alligator or a man. There are others who are so convinced and committed to a false god that they gladly commit suicide in order to kill innocent people who don't believe exactly as they do. They are as convinced of their rightness as some "professing" Christians who swear they believe in Jesus and Jehovah God, but pervert His word and claim every other Christian is lying, but they themselves lie profusely in defending their own brand of "religion".... and still they are blind to the fact, and think they are right and that God is with them.   And this even as they are being used of the Devil. They disrupt and debase every good and holy thing, including God's people, and think, as did Saul of Tarsus, that they are doing God a favor. RB
