The Lie: Satan's Surest Seduction

Common Sense Commentary:

Not every falsehood is a lie. It is often ignorance. A person can think their falsehood is true and tell it in ignorance. The thing is a lie when the teller knows it is untrue but tells it anyway.  Every sin, however wicked, is compounded by lies. All sin has within itself the seed of it's own destruction. If faith, the size of a grain of mustard seed can remove mountains, a sin, of the same size, can become a mountain, a fire erupting, irresistible volcano of destruction.

The singular origin of the sin of lying is in it's evil birth. Jesus said, "The devil is a liar and the father of it."  All lies are conceived when a person, in an illicit, lustful urge, accepts Satan's solution to their need, desire, hate, jealousy, fear or hunger, and they willingly open up to that solution, not realizing they are receiving Satan's seed into their heart. There it germinates and is born in the telling of the lie. Every real lie grows and reproduces itself.... lie upon lie upon lie. The very nature of the lie is reproductive. One lie never remains singular, but requires, of the liar, another and another to cover the first, in an endless stream of pollution. It is a never ending series which rises in volume higher and higher until it is a mountain of lies ... which only repentance and faith in Christ can wash away.

Jesus asked a lying couple, in Acts 5:4, "Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God."  "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished bringeth forth death." James 1:15.  Death is the certain, eventual end result, however long it takes, of unrepentant lying. The most hideous lie of all lies, the one that dooms the soul to hell is referenced in Rev. 21:8, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."  And who, exactly, are these "liars" which are listed with the worst of lying sinners? They are identified in 1 John 2:22, "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?"

Anyone who professes to be a Christian but hates others, is a liar, and is denying Christ by their hate.
"If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"  1 John 4:20.

All sin is addictive and terminally infects the soul of it's host ... "The wages of sin is death..."  But lies
feel so innocuous and appear to strengthen the liars position in such a way as be a harmless, personal deviation. However, the habitual liar not only spreads the seed but retains an equal portion until they are so saturated with lies that they cannot reverse the damage caused to themselves and to others. No one sin has done as much damage to the human race as lies have done, beginning with Lucifer in the garden of Eden. There are more references, in the Bible, to the sins of the tongue and mouth, than all other sins combined.

It is an interesting contradiction how a notorious liar can focus on the smallest infraction, in others, but somehow cannot see that he, himself, or herself, is the worst violator of truth around, and seemingly, does not even know it. The only deliverance for the habitual liar is the redemption of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
