Common Sense Commentary: If we could only understand, in it's fullness, the unfathomable truth of God's word in Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Once you embrace this fact that literally "all things work" for you if you are one of those who "love God". And if you are, and you truly do "love God", then you are also "called according to his purpose". Which means that God has a certain, specific calling for each and every Christian and is calling us to that purpose. If you do not hear and feel the calling of God, it is either because you aren't close enough to Him to hear His whispering to your soul or else you do not truly love Him and aren't truly saved. If the latter is the case, the only call He is giving you is the call to come to His saving grace and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. Then, if you are listening, you will hear, in your soul, His call for you.... according to His purpose. His call is not limited to some sort of ministry. He might call you to any one of a thousand different means of service to Him. Here is a wonderful example of "all things working together for good .... according to God's purpose" for the Christian who was supposed to be in the pilot's seat of one of the 9/11 passenger planes ... but God had a different calling and purpose for him.
