It Is Possible For A Christian To Doubt His Salvation

Common Sense Commentary: "Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.  And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds." Acts 26:28-29.
Many Christians have such weak faith that they sometimes doubt their own salvation. I am not one to try to convince anyone of their salvation. That is an unseen relationship between an individual and God.  But so much is lost in joy, peace and security, to the Christian who doubts, that the subject deserves some discussion.  I have given the way of salvation so many times, I won't rehearse it here. Security in Christ is to be found in faith and "Faith cometh by hearing ... the word of God." Rom.10:17. So if you are truly saved but aren't secure in your salvation, it is due to a lack of "hearing (receiving) the word of God."  That could be because you do not spend enough time in God's word and/or because so much preaching is based on "works salvation" that you are confused. A true Christian must know he is not worthy of salvation and that he is a sinner saved by God's grace.  If you think you earned it or are good enough for it, you are not saved at all.

Since you have made a profession of faith in Christ as your Savior, if you sometimes doubt it, you are either still unsaved or have forgotten that .... "... by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast." Eph.2:8-9.

To discover which is the case, let me ask you these repetitive questions: Do you believe more than you doubt?  Are you more convinced or unconvinced? Are you more persuaded or unpersuaded? If you are more persuaded than unpersuaded, your faith is greater than your fear, uncertainty, doubts and greater than your confusion.  Rest your mustard seed faith in Jesus Christ and spend more time in God's word for more and more assurance of your salvation. Holy Scripture is the only source of saving faith in our Lord Jesus. Where else do you find His word, His history, His grace, His righteousness, His faith, His salvation, His sure promise? "For the promise ... through the righteousness of faith .... is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure ...." Rom.4:13-16.

You will never be at peace about it or completely assured of your salvation until you know that you know that it is ..."...by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."  Eph.2:8-9

You did not earn it and can not keep it by your good works or sincere efforts....."....it is the gift of God: Not of works....
