Our Daughter Mary's Progress Against Bone Cancer

Please continue to pray for Mary.... and her husband Rick.

Here is Rick's latest update ...

Biopsy / Stem cell transplant
Journal entry by Rick Curtis — 1 hour ago

Praise God!  Mary's latest biopsy results showed that she is ready to move forward with her stem cell transplant at the City of Hope!  We were ecstatic when our specialist revealed to us yesterday that Mary's cancer has been reduced to only 10% in her bone marrow, down from 95% when we began!  Mary is off of chemotherapy treatments this week as she prepares for 10 consecutive days of Neupogen, beginning tomorrow.  The month of December will be intense beginning with 5 consecutive days of the collection of Mary's cells starting next Monday.  Mary's schedule has her checking in to the City of Hope on December 25 for the stem cell transplant. She is excited to begin on Christmas day as this is like a new birth. She will be extremely susceptible to infection and will be experiencing severe side effects from the drug, Melphalan.  Please pray for Mary to remain free of any bacteria that could attack her immune system prior to and after the transplant and for her to be free from infections.  The team at the City of Hope is preparing us for the side effects that could take place, so please also pray for Mary to have minimal side effects from her treatments.

I am blessed that I will be able to be Mary's "caregiver" during her stay at the City of Hope. They have set up "bungalows" (small studio type apartments) in Hope Village where Mary and I will be staying after her treatments each day.

Even though Mary is off chemo this week she still is experiencing pain, so please continue to pray for her pain to subside. As most of you know, Mary is one tough woman, however, she welcomes relief from her daily pain and thanks to your prayers, she sleeps well most nights.  Thank you to all of our family and friends who continue to have Mary in your prayers, we could not go through this journey without our God and you!

Rick
